Choosing a new dishwasher
Choosing the right detergent
What a relief owning a dishwasher is - no more slaving over the kitchen sink! But sometimes even the dishwasher needs a bit of TLC to work at their best. Do check that the rotating spray arms are free from foodstuffs like peas and rice. To unblock, remove the arms and rinse under the tap and then replace. Check the filters regularly and to unblock them, remove and clean under running water.
*Before carrying out any maintenance on your machine, please refer to your manufacturers manual. |

Choosing a new dishwasher
Modern dishwashers are energy efficient both in water and electricity usage. They are also quieter than before due to added insulation and the use of smaller motors. For the best all-round performance on washing, drying and energy efficiency choose an 'AAA' rated machine.
Look out for dishwashers which the Energy Saving Trust has recommended. These have been carefully selected for their energy efficiency. The latest machines come complete with special programmes epecifically designed to save money.
Look for the following features:
Fast Wash Settings (under 30 mins) - save time and money!
Time Delay Function - so you can wash at night when electricity is normally cheaper
Half Load Function - so you can wash a few items quickly and economically
Versatile Programmes - which allow fragile glassware and crockery to be washed in the top basket whilst dirty dishes and pans are washed intensively in the bottom basket - all in one cycle.
Free standing dishwashers have easy-to-clean surfaces and are available in a variety of colours to complement any kitchen. Alternatively you can buy a fully integrated or semi built-in dishwasher which fit discreetly behind kitchen cupboard doors.
Full sized dishwashers are 60cm wide and usually accommodates 12 place settings. If kitchen space is at a premium, look for a Slimline which are only 45cm wide and take between seven and nine place settings. |
